Pic - Magic Collaboration
back

The Port d'Informació Científica is a scientific-technological centre which supports scientific communities working in projects that require massive data processing and data storage . It also supports scientific collaboration in virtual communities, since it exploits Grid technology and methodologies, forming part of the most extensive distributed computation infrastructure on a world-wide scale. The Grid builds its added value on the secure sharing of computing and storage resources and endows researchers with an extremely powerful and cost-saving tool .

These characteristics make PIC an ideal partner for the Magic Project, that started to collaborate in November 2005. The Datacenter stores RAW Files transferred to Barcelona from the Telescope at La Palma. A data amount of about 100 GB is transferred every day to be stored on tape. The RAW Data is processed in La Palma producing STAR, Ccdata and Cacodata-files as well as smaller calibrated files, which are stored on disk and are at the disposal of the collaboration.
